PESHAWAR: The District Administration of Peshawar has banned the use of cell phones in the premises of polling stations, a day ahead of the by-polls in NA-4 Peshawar.

The Deputy Commissioner’s office has issued a notification under Section-144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), slapping ban on the use of cell phones in polling stations for the election day, October 26. Cell phones have been banned to avoid any untoward incident during the polling.

The NA-4 seat lay vacant after the demise of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) MNA Gulzar Khan.

As per the Election Commission of Pakistan’s directions, Tuesday was the last day for the election campaign for the candidates contesting for the seat. The polling process would start Thursday morning. The ECP has ordered for army troops to be deployed at the polling stations.
