LAHORE: A meeting of the six major religious-political parties held at Mansoora has decided in principle to revive the Muttahida Majlis Amal (MMA).
The meeting was attended by Senator Sirajul Haq, Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Hafiz Sajid Mir, Owais Noorani, Maulana Abdul Rauf Farooqui, Allama Arif Wahid, Pir Aijaz Hashmi, Liaquat Baloch, Maulana Amjad Khan, Maulana Yousuf Shah, Akram Durrani, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haidri, and Dr Farid Paracha. Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Sirajul Haque was the host of the meeting.
“We are thankful to Allah for this. The restoration of MMA for the protection of the Islamic identity of the country, its safety, and security is welcome news for democratic stability. Running the country according to the constitution and Islamic principles is necessary.”
Supremacy of the law, meritocracy, and timely elections are necessary to save the country from a disaster, he said.
They said that the nation had no option other than holding elections on the stipulated time.
The meeting demanded that the government restore the oath on finality of Prophethood to its older form. “No change will be tolerated in it,” they said.
“A final meeting will be held in Karachi in December according to these proposals and recommendations.”
The meeting will be hosted by Owais Noorani, he added. The formal announcement of the restoration of the meeting will be made there.
He said that Pakistan and the Islamic world are passing through testing times as the blood of Muslims is being shed across the world.
