FIA launch probe against PCB’s logistics department

LAHORE: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Lahore has launched another investigation into the affairs of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

A source in FIA told Dawn on Wednesday that it had started investigation against the officials of the logistics department of the PCB for taking ‘commission’ from a tour operator for approval of contract. “The FIA has summoned senior PCB logistics department officials Asad Mustafa and Maqsood Ahmad as well as the representative of New Prince Tour Operators this week to record their statements in this regard,” he said. FIA Investigation Officer Gohar Wattoo is conducting the inquiry.

The FIA is also probing alleged illegalities in the construction of the Islamabad Cricket Stadium, some three dozen appointments in violation of PCB rules, giving shops outside the Gaddafi Stadium on lease and rent on far less market rates, hiring a luxury car on rent on very high rates for a former PCB chairman, allocation of funds to regional academies in violation of rules and irregularities in giving advertising rights.

FIA investigation into alleged wrongdoings in four projects — establishment of a bio-mechanical laboratory at the Gaddafi Stadium, construction of Garhi Khuda Bakhsh Stadium in Larkana, cricket academy in Multan and Far End Pavilion at the Gaddafi Stadium has also been under way for the last one year.

PCB chief operating officer Subhan and some other senior officials have recorded their statements.
