Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah has held the federal government responsible for bad security situation in the country and said Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan should leave office.

Talking to media personnel after visiting the Civil Hospital here on Saturday, he said the government should admit its failure to bring about any improvement in the country’s security situation. He also accused the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government of destroying the country’s economy.

Commenting on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif’s recent visit to Sindh, Mr Shah said after remaining almost four years in power he was now thinking about the province.

Says interior minister should leave office
Mocking the promises the prime minister made during his address to a public meeting in Thatta on Thursday, he resorted to Urdu poetry and said: “Bari der ki, meharban aatay aatay”.

Praying for the prime minister that he managed to launch the development projects he had announced during his address in Thatta, the opposition leader accused the government of ignoring Sindh in its development agenda. As compared to Punjab the federal government’s share in development projects in Sindh was negligible, he added.

Mr Shah expressed his displeasure over the scuffle between two members of the National Assembly — Javid Latif of the PML-N and Murad Saeed of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf — at the main entrance to the Parliament House. He said such incidents would further aggravate the already tense political situation in the country.

The opposition leader condemned the use of foul language against women, saying that they were already vulnerable to violence in society and they must be respected and protected.

Mr Shah said wrong policies of Gen Ziaul Haq’s military regime and the US governments in the 1980s had sowed the seed of terrorism in the country. He said the peace in Pakistan was linked to peace in Afghanistan and the leaders of two countries should understand this.
