In a tragic incident that took place early Monday morning, at least 18 people were killed and six others sustained injuries when a coal-laden truck fell over a van on the National Highway, Express News reported.
According to officials, the van was en route to Sukkur from Khairpur when the incident took place near Theri bypass, due to fog. All the passengers in the van were labourers.
Motorway police and rescue officials, meanwhile, started a rescue operation while shifting the deceased and injured to Civil Hospital Khairpur.
The death toll may increase as two of the injured are said to be in critical condition.
In 2014, on Theri bypass, at least 59 people were killed while 18 others were injured when a passenger bus collided head-on with a goods truck near Khairpur. The passenger bus was en route to Karachi from Swat when the collision took place.
