At least 24 people were killed and about 318 injured on Sunday when a passenger train derailed in northwest Turkey.
This was confirmed on Monday (9.07.2018) sources of the Ministry of Health, cited by CNNTürk.
Five wagons of a convoy with 368 passengers left the tracks when the train made the route between Uzunkopru, near Greece, and Istanbul.
The accident took place near the town of Sarilar, in an area of difficult access for cars, so helicopters were sent to the area to take the wounded to hospitals.
Numerous members of the emergency services arrived at the crash site with off-road vehicles and all the injured have already been transferred to hospitals in the region.
It is feared that the number of deaths may increase, because it is not ruled out that there are still more people trapped under the overturned wagons.
Witnesses quoted by Turkish television stations say they have seen more than ten people killed in the official victims’ list.
