MQM Unit In-Charge To Face Death Penalty In Waqas Shah Murder Case

An Anti-Terrorism Court, based in Karachi assigned punishment to MQM’s former unit in-charge, Syed Asif Ali, in Waqas Shah’s Murder case, on Monday.
Syed Asif Ali, allegedly killed his fellow Waqas Shah, during a protest that had ruptured on the streets as a result of the raid attempt made by the rangers at Nine Zero – MQM Headquarters, on March 2015.
According to the reports, the Anti-Terrorism Court has further assigned a seven-year confinement to MQM’s former unit in-charge, with a submission of Rs0.5 million fine, for carrying an unlicensed gun.
Amid the trial, the prosecution had asserted that Ali shot Waqas Shah using a 9mm pistol right at the moment when the paramilitary fired aerial gunshots in order to keep away the protesting crowd that had emerged after the raid at the MQM headquarters in Azizabad, Karachi.
Waqas Shah was an active MQM member representing the student wing, of the party. As per the post-mortem report, he was shot with a single bullet which hit him on his cheek and made its way out, piercing through the back of his head.
All this time, MQM had been making an allegation that it was the Rangers’ gunshot that cost Waqas his life, and refused claiming that it’s one of their party members, who is at fault in this murder. Rangers immediately refused the accusation and provided their statement that none of the members of the paramilitary force, were ordered to carry a 9mm gun that day.
Three months subsequent to Waqas’ Murder, a raid was made by the Rangers in Shahdadpur, where Asif was apprehended. According to the paramilitary force officials, Asif had been evading apprehension, whilst a few of the MQM’s top representatives knew about the killing.
