The Government of China expressed its confidence in the political and economic situation of Venezuela, before the state visit that begins today the president of that country, Nicolás Maduro, in which cooperation agreements will be signed.

“After a presidential election without setbacks, the situation in Venezuela has improved and his Government is actively promoting financial and economic reform,” said Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang on Thursday (13.09.2018) at a press conference. from the beginning of Maduro’s visit, four days.

“China trusts that the Government and people of Venezuela will be able to deal with their internal affairs within the legal framework,” the official source added, recalling that the country is a “strategic partner” for Beijing.

The spokesman said that during the visit of Maduro, which ends on September 16, the president will meet with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, and both will witness the signing of several bilateral agreements whose content did not want to advance.

On possible financial aid contracts from Beijing to Caracas, Geng only said that the financial cooperation “benefits the local (Venezuelan) population and is working well” and “follows the principles of mutual respect, in line with international standards.”

The Venezuelan president, who travels to China when his country is experiencing serious economic difficulties, will also meet in Beijing with Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and with the president of the Legislature, Li Zhanshu.

Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, will give a banquet in honor of Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, and the Venezuelan leader will preside over the sixteenth meeting of the high level committees for the bilateral relations of both countries.

Maduro’s trip “will further increase mutual political trust, deepen friendship and mutually beneficial cooperation in various areas and elevate it to a new level, opening new perspectives to bilateral ties,” spokesman Geng said.
