KARACHI: Seeking justice for the minor who was strangled to death after being allegedly raped in Karachi’s Manghopir area, her family members accompanied by area residents staged a protest Tuesday morning, blocking the road to Katti Pahari.
The protesters, who had also brought the body of the minor to the protest, demanded authorities to take immediate notice of the incident and take into custody those who had committed the dreadful crime.
The six-year-old girl was found dead in Manghopir early Tuesday morning, and though police officials were hesitant to confirm the report, it is strongly believed that the minor was sexually molested before being strangled to death.
As per the revealed details, the six-year-old child went missing on Monday afternoon and her body was found atop a hill near Nooruddin Goth somewhat after midnight.
Manghopir police station’s Duty Officer (DO) Ijaz said the victim’s father visited the police station at 9:00pm on Monday to report his daughter’s absence.
“In his statement, the father told us the victim left her house at around 2:00pm on Monday after her aunt slapped her for refusing to go the madrassah,” said the DO, adding a call about a child’s dead body was received at 12:40am on early Tuesday morning.
The area SHO, Haji Sanaullah, shared that the MLO’s report confirmed that the minor was strangled to death. However, when asked about reports of sexual assault, he said investigations were underway at a preliminary stage. Similarly, SSP West Nasir Aftab did not respond to a single question pertaining to the minor’s assault.
