The Charsadda District Court on Tuesday remanded a student who allegedly killed his college principal in Shabqadar yesterday to police custody for three days.

After a short hearing, Judicial Magistrate-I Attaullah Jan handed the student’s custody to the police.

The grade 12 student, Faheem, had shot six bullets at his college’s principal, Hafiz Sareer Ahmed, after being reprimanded for skipping classes to attend a dharna in Islamabad.

In a video acquired by DawnNews, the student, while being arrested, appeared to justify the murder saying he believed the college principal had committed blasphemy.

It was not immediately clear what prompted that charge.

“I have been taught… to kill… to not be afraid. Don’t be afraid of disrespecting the one who [commits blasphemy],” the student can be heard saying in the video in Pashto.

“You can kill me,” he tells the arresting officers.

Sources told DawnNews that the student had been angry that he was marked absent during the days he was attending the Faizabad sit-in.

Blasphemy is a highly sensitive issue in Pakistan, where even unproven allegations can stir mob violence and lynchings.

Last year, a mob in Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan beat up a student, Mashal Khan, to death after accusing him of blasphemy over social media.

The incident caused an outrage across the country, with calls for the blasphemy law to be amended. The investigation into Mashal’s murder was concluded after a joint investigation team probing the case cleared the victim of all charges.

At least 65 people have been murdered by vigilantes over blasphemy allegations since 1990.

A high number of senior serving and retired military officers attended the ceremony, including former army chief General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani and former ISI chief Lt Gen Ahmad Shuja Pasha.

Former COAS Gen Kayani (right) and former ISI chief Lt Gen Pasha (2nd right, 2nd row).

AIMH has been established to record, archive, preserve and compile the history of Pakistan Army and act as a centre of excellence for the study of military history in the country, the Inter Services Public Relations said in a statement.

The COAS also appreciated the founding team of AIMH and hoped the institute would “go a long way in preserving and keeping alive the glorious history and heritage of Pakistan Army”.

In September last year, the COAS had inaugurated the Army Museum Lahore.

The museum depicts the history and heritage of Pakistan through various sections titled Rebirth of a Nation, Quaid and Armed Forces, Shuhada Corner, Nishan-e-Haider Gallery, Life at Highest Battlefield Siachin, Kashmir Corner, Pakistan’s contributions in United Nations, Nation Building Efforts and White of the Flag.

Earlier, in August, the army opened its Rawalpindi Museum to the public while celebrating the country’s 71st Independence Day.

The museum has special areas dedicated to those army officers who fought and lost their lives to terrorism, a Kashmir corner, a gallery devoted to the recipients of Nishan-e-Haider, and a Pakistan-India War Story corner.

Disney recently revealed the full cast of The Incredibles 2, and it couldn’t have been better. While Holly Hunter and Craig T Nelson return as the lead couple, the Parrs; a whole new bunch of talented actors have also been cast. Read on to know who made the cut.

One of the most anticipated releases of this year as far as animation is concerned is Disney Pixar’s sequel to the 2004 blockbuster The Incredibles. The full list of cast associated with the project was recently revealed. The lead characters, Helen and Bob, look ready to save the world once again with their special powers.

Holly Hunter will be voicing the character of Helen Parr. Helen has hung up her supergirl suit to lead a normal life with her husband Bob, but as she is beckoned to raise a campaign to bring the Supers back into the spotlight, she readies herself to face yet another challenge in true superhero style.

Bob Parr will be voiced by the talented Craig T. Nelson. In the sequel, Bob will be seen remembering the good old days of his super strength, when he could crush all the bad guys single-handedly. But as his wife Helen readies herself to lead the Supers, Bob will be forced to take care of the house, all on his own. Will he succeed?

The first child of the Parrs, Violet Parr (voiced by Sarah Vowell) is an introverted and smart 14-year-old. But she is also sarcastic and outspoken, traits which do not help her make friends at all. Oh, and she also has the power of invisibility, which she is secretly honing. Is she readying herself to help mamma Parr fight crime?

Dashiell Parr will be voiced by Huckleberry ‘Huck’ Milner. A 10-year-old, Dashiell just doesn’t know how to keep calm. And being a Parr, he also has his own super strength–super speed.

Lucius Best, another Super, is super-cool and Bob’s best friend. So naturally, an equally cool actor has been cast to voice the character. Yes, it is Samuel Jackson, who will be voicing Lucius. Samuel was also a part of The Incredible.

Edna E Mode, the fashionista, will be voiced by Brad Bird, while the character of Winston Deavor, a world-class telecommunications company, will be voiced by Bob Odenkirk. Winston Deavor’s sister Evelyn Deavor will be voiced by Catherine Keener.

Rick Dicker, who heads the official Super Relocation Programme, helps the Parrs in keeping their identities a secret. Rick will be voiced by Jonathan Banks.

Voyd, is named after her superpower. Yes, she has the ability to create voids that allow objects to disappear and shift in space. Her character will be voiced by Sophia Bush.

And, as they say, save the best for the last, Blue Velvet star Isabella Rossellini will be voicing the sophisticated foreign ambassador who is dedicated to the Supers’ cause. Now that sounds like a lot of fun!

Ben Stokes was charged last week after a lengthy investigation into an incident outside a Bristol nightclub last September.

Suspended England all-rounder Ben Stokes is to delay his arrival for the country’s tour of New Zealand in order to attend his first court hearing into a charge of affray.

The 26-year-old Stokes was charged last week after a lengthy investigation into an incident outside a Bristol nightclub last September.

While he was included in England’s squad for the Ashes tour of Australia and subsequent visit to New Zealand starting next month, he has not been available for selection due to the legal process.

An initial hearing was set for Feb. 13 at Bristol Magistrate’s Court, six days after England would have started a triangular Twenty20 series with Australia and New Zealand and the same day they are scheduled to play a match in Wellington.

“As has been confirmed in the media a first hearing date at court has been set for 13th February,” Stokes said on his Twitter page on Monday.

“In the circumstances, I have decided that it would not be right to join my teammates until after attending court on the 13th.”

The 26-year-old Stokes, who was born in New Zealand, has not featured for England since the incident but played six matches on a short-term contract with New Zealand side Canterbury last month before returning to England.

England also play five one-day internationals and two tests on their tour of New Zealand.

Turkey-Syria: an intolerable aggression http://rava.pk/turkey-syria-an-rable-aggression/ http://rava.pk/turkey-syria-an-rable-aggression/#respond Tue, 23 Jan 2018 09:47:03 +0000 http://rava.pk/?p=111313 Turkey attacked the YPG Kurdish militias in Syria. Once again, the Erdogan government shows to be an unpredictable actor, says Kersten Knipp. But even more cynical is the silence of Ankara’s international partners. Turkey attacked the YPG Kurdish militias in Syria. Once again, the Erdogan government shows to be an unpredictable actor, says Kersten Knipp. But even more cynical is the silence of Ankara’s international partners.

Turkey denied it: he said that the reports of the Syrian Human Rights Observer, based in London, on the civilian victims of the Turkish invasion in northern Syria in the Kurdish Afrin enclave, are nothing more than “negative propaganda.” the only ones killed by the Turkish air attacks are the armed combatants and that only the “terrorists” are targeted.

The myth of the clean war is one of the most worn out, considering the violence in Syria, which has devastated the country for seven years. The second myth is even more fallacious: the YPG militias as a whole and without exception are “terrorists.” It is true that the fighters of the Popular Protection Units, YPG, are close to the PKK (Kurdistan Workers Party). , which in Turkey and in the EU is considered a terrorist group, but the PKK and the YPG are not identical, and the YPG militias have not attacked Turkey, the missiles of their territory that now reach Anatolia are the answer the Turkish attack on a neighboring country.

Currencies of change in world politics

For one hundred years, the Kurds have been the currency of international politics. The most recent chapter of the cynical treatment of them was written during the war in Syria, where they proved to be one of the most effective forces against the jihadist terrorist groups, such as “Islamic State” and others, they contributed, supported and armed by the United States, definitely The battle for the city of Kobane, occupied by EI in northern Syria in 2014, could not have been won without the Kurdish fighters. Also in Iraq, the Kurds repelled the EI and saved the lives of thousands of Yazidis.

Undoubtedly, the territory dominated by the Kurds in northern Syria is not model in democratic terms. But taking into account the entire region, it sets standards and differs from the domains of secular and religious potentates of the region.

The calculation of politicians

It is therefore more shameful that they turn their backs on the Syrian Kurds once more. The Americans, who armed the Kurds militarily and with those they wanted, with a frontier troop of 30,000 people, to prevent the possible return of EI, remain silent in the face of the attack of the Turks. They are apparently fleeing from the conflict with a NATO partner, Turkey, who is joined by the desire for the political end of Bashar al Assad. In Washington they seem willing to let the Kurds down.

It is not clear if Russia, as has been reported, has withdrawn its troops from Afrin. The Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, denied it. But it is true that the new and growing tensions between the United States and Turkey are going to Moscow.

Also in Europe criticism is cautious. The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves le Drian, was the only one who has clearly expressed himself in this regard, demanding a meeting with the UN Security Committee. The German government, however, has not spoken much about it. Nor on the reports that indicate that the Turkish offensive was carried out with tanks Leopard 2, of German origin.

An aggressive and unpredictable partner

The silence of the West is shameful. In addition to risky, because it allows a government, at will, adopt a very aggressive stance both inside and outside their country. Ankara reacted by detaining around 30 people, according to Turkish media, for criticism of the Turkish military campaign.

It should be noted that the Erdogan government continues its aggressive foreign policy trajectory: first against Russia, then Israel, the United States, for several months also against Germany. And now, not only verbally, but militarily, attacking the Syrian Kurds. The Turkish government is as an almost unpredictable actor and as a partner, at least, unreliable.

Although electronic devices are increasingly an integral part of our lives, few of us stop to consider how the convergence of technological elements will transform humanity.

Some say that this transformation will be disorderly, complex and, at times, terrifying, but there are already signs that point to a future that will blur our identities.

For the BBC, the philosopher Julian Baggini explains the radical vision of transhumanism.

torn line

Most of us would consider the end of the human race as a catastrophe. But there are those who not only rejoice but want to hurry the day in which it occurs.

Transhumanists anxiously await the day when Homo apiens will be replaced by a better, more intelligent model in better conditions …

Humans do indeed need to improve urgently.

Any species that causes such enormous damage to the environment, that can not be fed despite having enough food and struggles countless wars that claim millions of lives can surely benefit from an intelligence system update.

Famine, destruction, war, conflict.

In addition, our lifespan is short, our last years are usually characterized by waning health and vitality often accompanied by a decrease in cognitive ability.

One out of every three people born in 2015 will suffer from dementia.

Is this really the best we can hope for?

Transhumanists think that the answer is ‘No’.

Aging could stop and even reverse.

Some improvements could dramatically raise our IQ and make us stronger.

brain with apparatus
Image caption Our brain can be improved with devices …

We may be able to leave our fragile bodies behind, carrying what we are in a computer and live forever in virtual worlds.

Improving humanity through science and technology can radically change us.

It would be a new beginning that would begin with the end of humanity as we know it.

Many transhumanists believe that this is not only desirable but inevitable.

The scientist and futurist Ray Kurzweil believes that we are getting closer to what he calls the “singularity”, the moment when computers become smart enough to learn by themselves.

From then on, and very quickly, they will become more and more intelligent.

Ray Kurzweil
Image caption Ray Kurzweil says that uniqueness is imminent.

The future belongs to artificial intelligence.

The only way for humans to survive is to welcome it and become – we ourselves – partially or completely artificial.

The idea of being replaced by a new form of humans is disturbing.

But the transhumanists think that it would be wrong to regret the end of humanity as we know it if what will replace it will be much better.

It would be like wishing that children would never grow up, they say, or that the Homo rectus would never have evolved to become Homo apiens .

If the transhumanists are right, we could be one of the last generations of humans to roam the planet .

Some 1,450 people were evacuated today from a nightclub and a hotel in central London following a gas leak in the Strand area, which forced the closure of a metro station, the Fire Brigade (LFB) reported.

This morning, firefighters evacuated the nightclub Heaven and a hotel when detecting the gas leak on Carven Street, in the Strand, an area near the Charing Cross station, which has been closed, the source said.

Strand, a major avenue in the center of the British capital, remains closed to traffic while the engineers of the National Grid company try to repair the damage.

“We are helping the Police on the Strand after the discovery of a broken gas pipe and high levels of natural gas have been detected in the atmosphere,” said a spokesman for LFB in London.

“As a precaution, some 1,450 people have been evacuated from a hotel and a nightclub,” he added. EFE

KASUR: Police have made a major breakthrough in a case pertaining to the grisly rape and murder of seven-year-old Zainab in Kasur by arresting the main suspect, ARY News reported on Tuesday.

According to informed sources, the tissue samples obtained from a suspect had matched the samples taken from the body of the victim. Reports say the suspect named Imran is a resident of the same area and lived in close proximity to the house of Zainab’s aunt.

Police claim the suspect has confessed to the crime. He was initially arrested when the murder came to the light, but later was released.

Reports say the culprit disappeared from the neighbourhood shortly after his release. Police then traced and rounded him up again after some clues.

Father of the minor victim, Amin Ansari, confirmed the arrested suspect lived in the same area. He said police have not yet informed him about the arrest of the key suspect in his daughter’s rape and murder case.

The 72-hour deadline

On January 21the Supreme Court gave three days’ time to a joint investigation team formed to probe the rape and murder of Zainab to track down the culprit.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) Multan Muhammad Idrees, who is heading a joint investigation team constituted to probe the incident, submitted a progress report to the court.

Zainab murder case

Details of Zainab’s killer released by the police

He informed that Zainab’s  rape and murder was the eighth incident of similar nature that had taken place in Kasur since June 2015.

Several similar incidents had taken place in the same city, what police had done so far to arrest culprits, the chief justice asked.

Expressing dissatisfaction over progress in the probe into the rape-murder of the minor girl, a member of the bench remarked the investigators had zeroed in on just one angle of the case. The police could probe the case in multiple traditional ways, he added.

Justice Manzoor Ahmed Malik asked the police to focus on other angles of the case too, reminding them that the DNA testing was not the only way to trace the culprit.

If the police continued the probe in this way, DNA tests of 210 million people will have to be conducted, he said.

The case background

Zainab was abducted on January 04 from Kasur’s Kot Road area. Five days after her disappearance, she was found raped, dead and buried in a garbage dump on Jan 09.

Zainab’s rape and murder shattered the entire nation, triggering widespread public outrage with people from all walks of life demanding an exemplary capital punishment for the perpetrator.

Violent protests had erupted in the Kasur city following the incident, resulting in the death of two people in police firing outside DC office.

The incident blew the lid on the horrifying reality of how children in a brutalized society are vulnerable to sexual abuse.

Britain’s Kyle Edmund bludgeoned his way past third seed Grigor Dimitrov 6-4 3-6 6-3 6-4 on Rod Laver Arena on Tuesday to reach the Australian Open semi-finals.

The unseeded 23-year-old, playing in his first grand slam quarter-final, showed no nerves as he blazed away with his fearsome forehand to subdue a nervy Dimitrov.

The Bulgarian struggled to reproduce the form that saw him beat home favourite Nick Kyrgios in the previous round, with his serve especially vulnerable.

Edmund broke decisively at 4-4 in the opening set with a thunderbolt forehand off a weak second serve.

Dimitrov took the second set but never looked completely comfortable against the ultra aggressive Edmund and a double-fault at 3-4 in the third set proved costly.

The players swapped breaks in the fourth set but Edmund broke again for a 5-4 lead to serve for the match.

A tense final game saw Edmund double-fault but an ace brought up match point and then Dimitrov sliced a backhand long which was confirmed by Hawkeye.

Edmund is the only British man in the main draw after three-times grand slam champion Andy Murray withdrew to have surgery on his hip.
