Four people died in an explosion on Sunday in a building in the city of Leicester, in the north of England. The police have not linked the incident with a terrorist act.
Four other people remain hospitalized in the wake of the blast, whose causes are unknown and which occurred in a property on Hinckley Road, which included a store on the ground floor and an apartment upstairs, police said.
“There are four deaths confirmed at this time and a number of people are still receiving treatment in the hospital,” said Superintendent Shane O’Neill of the Leicestershire Police.
“We believe there may be people who have not yet been counted and the rescue efforts continue in order to locate other possible victims,” the agent added to the British media.
Once the rescue operation is concluded, there will be an investigation to determine the circumstances of the explosion, which at this moment “is not linked to terrorism,” O’Neil said.
