KARACHI: Counter Terrorist Department (CTD) police, in a press conference held by CTD DIG Amir Farooqui on Friday afternoon, claimed to have arrested Nadir Ali alias Murshid a key suspect of the Sehwan bombing.
Farooqui explained that the arrest was made after intelligence agencies received a tip regarding his whereabouts. “He was moving from Balochistan to Karachi and was arrested from the Manghopir area while riding a motorcycle. Explosives were also recovered from his possession,” he said.
The accused belongs to Da’esh and during interrogation confessed that he along with his companions including Ghulam Murtaza alias Doctor, Safiullah and Barar Brohi (suicide bomber) carried out an attack on a shrine at Sehwan Sharif on February 16.
At least 82 people were killed and over 383 were wounded in a suicide bombing at the shrine of Sufi saint Lal Shahbaz Qalandar in Sindh’s Sehwan town in February. According to a police source, the bomber entered the shrine and blew himself up amid a large assembly of devotees, many of whom were there because Thursday is considered a sacred day to pray at the shrine.
