Attack on Ary News Offices on August 22nd Monday, was pre-planned and executed by the Muttehida Qaumi Movement (MQM), said DG Rangers Major General Bilal Akber, claiming further that six of the apprehended party workers have made a confession regarding the mayhem.
While speaking to the media persons on Monday, during his visit to the Jinnah Hospital, the DG said that, “The members of the MQM’s unit and sector offices carried out the attack on the directives of the party’s Rabita Committee and Central Executive Committee,”
The rioters had attacked the media offices after receiving orders from their Chief, after his hatred-filled telephonic address and Anti-Pakistan remarks provoked the party workers to cause deterioration in Karachi’s Saddar area.
Following the event, Farooq Sattar, MQM’s senior leader made an announcement to dissociate the party affairs from Altaf Hussain, saying that all the political affairs will now be run by MQM’s Karachi wing.
Speaking about the confession made by the six MQM workers, Major General Bilal Akber said, “The six arrested miscreants have revealed that they brought batons and knives and organized the attackers on the directives given.” He added, “These six persons are being handed over to police for further investigation and a subsequent trial, while we will continue to carry out raids to nab the remaining miscreants.”
According to the DG Rangers, two officials who worked in a bank near the Karachi Press Club provided refuge to the miscreants, who had attacked; it is claimed that the two officials belonged to the MQM labor division. “One of MQM officials, Javaid Shaukat has been arrested while the other, Khurram Khan is still at large and the raids are being conducted to arrest him,” the DG added.
Since August 25, around two dozen MQM offices have been demolished by the Rangers that were built on encroached land, whilst the other 200, are sealed by the law enforcement agencies.
