Pakistani women have a beam of hope: LHC dedicates special court to deal with sexual harassment cases

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) Chief Justice Mansoor Ali Shah on Monday inaugurated a special court that will deal with cases pertaining to harassment of women.

Additional and Sessions Judge Rehmat Ali will hear the first case at the court, sources told The Express Tribune.

Over 400 cases of torture and harassment of women are being heard in different city courts – 100 of which have been transferred to the special court in the first phase.

Sexual harassment is an under-recognised global human rights violation that disproportionately affects women and girls every day. There is a high risk of sexual victimisation in public spaces in low- and middle-income countries, where women and girls are increasingly entering the public domain.
