Reporters have discovered some 13.4 million secret documents that detail evidence of tax evasion among high-ranking politicians. Some in Donald Trump’s cabinet have been implicated.

A new investigation by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) on tax havens, known as “Paradise Papers”, revealed today (05.11.2017) that there are commercial links between members of the administration of US President Donald Trump and Russia.

Some 400 reporters have tracked 13.4 million secret documents and discovered tax evasion techniques used by wealthy and high-ranking politicians, German media reported on Sunday.

According to the investigation, the Secretary of Commerce of the United States, Wilbur Ross, is a shareholder of a shipping company with commercial relations with a Russian businessman who was subject to sanctions by Washington and the son-in-law of President Vladimir Putin. Despite having sold other shares before joining the Trump Administration, Ross kept his shares in the Navigator shipping company, The New York Times said .

The documents showed that the US Secretary of Commerce, Wilbur Ross, benefited from a company linked to Putin’s allies.

The documents come from a leak of documents from the law firm Appleby and Asiatici Trust received by the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung , from 19 different jurisdictions that appear on the list of tax havens of the OECD.

Related public figures

Among the public figures related to tax havens, according to the information published by the ICIJ, would be Queen Elizabeth II of England; the president of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos; the US Secretary of State for Commerce UU., Wilbur Ross; and the former German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder. Also singers Bono (U2) and Madonna.
