Under the slogan, “Play with us, not with your cell phones”, this curious demonstration called some 150 participants in Hamburg. Specifically, because their parents spend all day glued to the cell phone and, apparently, do not pay too much attention to their offspring.
Where are the parents?
The idea started with young Emil, seven years old. As he told the German press, he asked his father something and he did not even react. Thus the idea of calling a demonstration to demand more attention from parents arose.
A full-fledged demonstration
Due to the low average age of all participants, curiously this group of children had to rely on the accompaniment of parents as legal guardians. They also had to respect the legal rules for any demonstration and were escorted by the police.
A national problem
This type of initiative already had antecedents in other German cities, such as Augsburg and Rostock, which carried out campaigns to raise awareness about the problems that excessive cellular consumption can cause in the relationship between parents and children. Studies conclude that the excessive use of cell phones by parents causes frustration, hyperactivity, crying and attacks of rabies in children.
Although it is a step to raise awareness of the problem, this position takes only one part. Looking to the future there are still many open questions. For example, what role will home assistants play like Alexa (Amazon), Google Home or Apple HomePod? Will such devices come to understand and react to the messages that are issued by the smallest?
