PESHAWAR: As ties between Washington and Islamabad spiral downwards with accusations being traded, the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governor has reiterated that the international community must acknowledge Pakistan’s sacrifices in the war on terror.

This was stated by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Tuesday as the Peshawar-based US Consul General Stephen Fakan called on him at the Governor House in Peshawar.

He reiterated that the people of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) and K-P have rendered great sacrifices in the war against terror and that the International community must acknowledge Pakistan’s role in this regard.

Discussing matters pertaining to the well-being of the people of K-P and the Fata, Jhagra said that the government was working on implementing reforms in Fata to bring the people of the tribal areas into the national mainstream.

“Change is the government’s priority and we want to bring Fata at par with other federating units. Equal treatment to Fata residents in all social sectors would be ensured,” he assured.

French media delegation

A visiting delegation of French media called on the governor on Tuesday.

The delegation included Journal Le Monde’s Chief Editor Jacques Follorou, Le Figaro New Delhi Correspondent Emmanuel of Derville, Le Journal du Dimanche’s Karen Lajon, Agence France Press Correspondent Joris Fioriti, and French TV Channel Senior International Correspondent Michel Scott.

The governor highlighted the strong friendly ties between Pakistan and France.

Referring to the implementation of Fata reforms, he said that this was a continuous process wherein legal reforms are being given due priority to bring constructive change in Fata’s affairs in consultation with all stakeholders, as he termed the merger of Fata with K-P to be in the best interest of the people of the tribal areas.

“Peace has been restored in the country because of Operation Zarb-e-Azb and the environment is quite feasible for foreign investment as well,” he added.
