The Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin attested before the National Assembly’s Standing Committee and stated the higher tariff has impacted economic growth. He also said that the conditions IMF agreed to are considered very harsh. The Finance Minister said that the government will be taking alternative routes to decrease the circular debt.
Tarin further stated that the tax net would not be increased. He also confessed that government is not able to run public sectors unless they are privatized. He also said that for economic growth, the company has to go beyond the stabilization that has been there for two years. If it is going to stay like this, revenue collection, job opportunities, and the economy’s productivity will not improve.
