A Malaysian CEO died recently after his smartphone exploded. Though the exact make of the smartphone is not known, the CEO of Cradle Fund Nazrin Hassan was said to be using devices from BlackBerry and Huawei.

Incidentally, this is not an isolated case of smartphone fire causing death. There have been cases before too, including many in India. One of the biggest causes of these smartphone explosions is battery. Smartphones come with lithium-ion batteries, which heat themselves and may become hotter while being charged.
