Addressing the business community, PM Imran asked the traders to work with the government to collect more taxes. He said the country would be capable of overcoming all of its problems and challenges with collective effort. The prime minister said national dignity and self-reliance go hand in hand.

He said people are refusing to pay taxes because the former rulers have looted the national exchequer and lost the confidence of the public. The Prime Minister asked, “Who will pay taxes when leaders live lavishly on public expense?”

Talking of his austerity measures, PM Imran said he reduced Prime Minister House’s budget by 40%. He said, ” I live in my own home, pay my own expenses. My salary is not enough to fulfil my own household expenses.” PM Imran said after assuming the office of the prime minister, he had not started any business.

PM Imran retorted his expenses on foreign tours were 10 times lower than those of the previous rulers.

Last year on November 20, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday said that tax registration by traders was vital for economic development as the government could not be run efficiently without enhancing the revenues.

Addressing a ceremony of sales tax refunds in Islamabad, PM Imran had urged the business community to take it as their national duty to pay taxes.

Terming the wealth creation essential for national development, he had said the government will promote and facilitate the business community and industry.
