On Wednesday, the United States exceeded the forbidding milestone of 100,000 COVID-19 deaths as the country continues to relax lockdown and return to work.

With the European Union revealing a massive recovery plan to increase its rise from the catastrophe, the US figure was a sobering reminder of the damage being inflicted globally by the virus.

Established US deaths stood at 100,396 late Wednesday, with closely 1.7 million infections, as per the calculation made by Johns Hopkins University.

Despite such alarming mortality rate, most US states have started reopening restaurants and businesses, egged on by President Donald Trump, who is keen to see the financial pain of the crisis alleviated as he looks forward to re-election.

Washington, the US capital, will relax its lockdown from Friday.
