London mayor Sadiq Khan announced that no New Year celebration will be taking place this year in the light of rising cases of coronavirus. The celebration of 6,500 people has been canceled on Trafalgar Square in the British capital as the Omicron variant has sparked. According to Khan, the infection has reached a record level and he had to do everything he possibly could to curb the spread.
The city authorities have ensured that there would be a live broadcast on the British Broad Casting (BBC) instead of a physical celebration. Khan added, “This will be very disappointing for many Londoners, but we must take the right steps to reduce the spread of the virus.”
