Setting an example for women, Ayesha Malik has become the first judge of the Supreme Court in the history of the country! Malik will take over once the SC’s present judge Justice Mushir Alam retires on August 17. She has been nominated by Chief Justice of Pakistan Gulzar Ahmed. Justice Malik stands fourth on the seniority list of the Lahore High Court.
According to a senior counsel, it was positive and refreshing news amidst all the bad disagreements and controversies related to the JCP. The counsel also said that he is afraid that bar councils and associations may not appreciate elevating a junior judge to a senior level.
She was born in 1996 and completed her education in Karachi and Paris. She holds a degree from BCom Government College of Commerce and Economics, Karachi, and to pursue her career in law, she went to Pakistan College of Law, Lahore. Later, she completed her LLM from Harvard Law School.
As Justice Malik is set to make history, it gives hope that there is nothing women can’t achieve. What are your thoughts?
