Coronavirus cases stabilize after total lockdown in Australia’s Victoria state

The second-most populous state in Australia recorded only a minor uptick in new Covid-19 infections, boosting hopes that case numbers would stabilize after a second wave forced authorities to lock down Melbourne ‘s city.

Victoria state, which currently accounts for about all new cases in Australia, has reported 331 infections with coronavirus and 19 deaths in the past 24 hours, up from 322 infections and the same number of deaths a day earlier, health officials said.

 

On August 5, daily infections in Victoria peaked at 725 and in recent days, after the imposition of smart lockdown in Melbourne on July 19.
