Election for Senate chairman to take place shortly

The much-hyped election for the key offices of chairman and deputy chairman of the Senate is set to take place shortly.

After an unexpected power play at the Senate polls, the opposition parties have managed to retain their majority in the Senate; they now hope to get the top offices of chairman and deputy chairman for which elections through secret ballot will be conducted on March 12.

The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) has not officially announced its candidates for the two offices, many leaders, including Pakistan Peoples Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, have indicated that Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani would be the joint candidate for the office of Senate chairman.
