Indonesia calls for Saudi decision on Hajj

Indonesia has called on Saudi Arabia to decide if it will permit the annual Islamic pilgrimage to Makkah, as the coronavirus pandemic has cast doubt on the ritual.

Last year, around 2.5 million faithful traveled from all over the world to Saudi Arabia to participate in the Haj, which all Muslims have to perform at least once in their lives if they can.

The year-round Umrah pilgrimage was halted in March when Muslims were asked by Saudi Arabia to temporarily defer preparations during the Covid-19 outbreak.
