Islamabad, 23 March 2020 – Islamabad United, the most successful franchise in HBL PSL history, would like to announce that they are donating Rs. 1 million to the Government of Sindh Coronavirus Emergency Fund.

The Fund was launched by the Sindh Government earlier this week, and among its three trustees is Mr. Mushtaq Chapra. Mr. Chapra is the co-founder of The Citizens’ Foundation – which has been the CSR partner for Islamabad United for the past three years.

Regarding the initiative Ali Naqvi, the owner of the franchise, said, “We have always believed in cricket providing awareness to create a better, more progressive society. Our platform at Islamabad United is an avenue for us to highlight such issues, and we want to offer the clout that national cricketers and ambassadors can bring to such matters. Right now, we are suffering through a global pandemic and it is up to all of us to step up in such a scenario.

We’ll suffer an economic setback as a whole, but our priority right now must be to save lives. Considering such a scenario, and to mitigate the effects of it, we want to draw attention to, and join together with, the work of the authorities in Pakistan. In light of this we are donating to the Sindh Government’s Coronavirus Emergency Fund and hope that others in our position do so too. We will only get out of this by joining together, and working collectively.”

In addition to the donation, Islamabad United will also be spreading awareness of the need for social distancing at this crucial juncture on various social media platforms via its players.
