During a hearing of the anti-encroachment campaign, Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed ordered the Sindh government to compensate those who had been affected by the nullah cleaning drive that saw the demolition of almost 50,000 homes in Orangi Town, Mehmoodabad nullah, and Gujjar nullah. The Sindh government responded by saying that it would abide by the SC’s orders, after which the apex court gave it two weeks’ time for the arrangement of funds.
The provincial government has also asked Sindh’s chief minister to present before the court with progress on the current issue. Moreover, the court has expressed disapproval on mismanagement of city matters saying the treatment of the city at large is problematic with litter found around every corner.
Do you think the affected people will be duly compensated?
