Melbourne heads with Australia ‘s toughest virus lockdown

Australia’s second-largest city, Melbourne, has entered the toughest lockdown yet, triggering a new wave of anxiety and confusion over ever more strenuous regulations, AFP reports.

Melbourne ‘s streets were visibly quieter, as non-essential businesses were forced to shutter for six weeks under new coronavirus rules.

A second lockdown for Victoria’s state capital began early July but overnight additional regulations came into force, requiring hundreds of thousands more people to stay at home.

Residents are still permitted to go out for recreation and food during the daytime, or for work if their business is considered necessary.
