To curb the spread of the Omicron variant, the National Institute of Health (NIH) is ready to make arrangements for the launch of the countrywide COVID-19 testing drive in schools. The sources have confirmed that the NIH will soon start a coronavirus testing campaign on a large scale in all educational institutes in the country and it will continue for two weeks. The NIH also announced that vaccines will be mandatory for all students above 12 years of age and non-vaccinated students must have evidence of the medical exemption.
The health ministry had also closed the educational institution for a week after recording the highest COVID-19 cases. However, the NCOC took the decision otherwise and demanded not to close the schools. Planning and Development Minister Asad Umar presided over the meeting where he urged the students to take precautionary measures and wear a mask all the time. the meeting was also attended by Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood and provincial education ministers.
