Saturday saw a massive increase in Covid-19 cases in Karachi, where the virus positivity ratio logged at more than 15%. Sindh health officials said that 87% patients were hit by the Omicron variant, of which 60% were women.
Given a swift spread of Omicron, the Sindh government has decided to start a door-to-door vaccination drive from next week.
The Sindh health department has provided dozens of private hospitals and laboratories with Covid vaccines.
Health officials have cautioned against complacency, saying the new variant is also impacting people who have been fully inoculated.
Nevertheless, the symptoms and their severity are said to be lower compared to those who haven’t been vaccinated or have only received a single dose.
