The National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) has confirmed a total of 75 cases of Omicron strain of COVID-19 all over Pakistan. The first case was reported on Dec 13 in Karachi and since then, the tally has risen to 17 in Islamabad, 13 in Lahore, and 33 in Karachi. Most of the cases are associated with international travel. The health institutions have kept the patients in complete isolation as the World Health Organization (WHO) labeled it as ‘the variant of concern’.
The institutions such as NCOC, NIH, and other health departments have been urged to remain vigilant after the variant has been detected. NIH stated, “The vaccination and standard operations procedures (SOPs) continue to be our best defense against COVID-19 despite the mutations being reported.” They have approved of all the vaccines available in Pakistan and labeled them ‘highly effective’.
