To discuss the current situation in Afghanistan, Pakistan has offered to host the session of the Council of Foreign Minister of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) convened by Saudi Arabia.
In a video message, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that Pakistan fully endorses the initiative, expressing his confidence that the OIC member states would also back the proposal.
According to a Saudi Press Agency, Saudi Arabia, which is the chair of the OIC summit, took the initiative for the extraordinary session the same day.
The agency stated that the summit had been called to discuss the situation in Afghanistan and “pathways for an urgent humanitarian response”, recognizing Pakistan’s offer to host the conference.
Since the Taliban took over Afghanistan on August 15, the war-battered country has been faced with a serious food crisis coupled with drought and a poor economy.
