Renowned religious scholars have lashed out at the controversial paragraph 66 of the full verdict in General (retd) Pervez Musharraf case, terming it “illegal and unIslamic”.

In a statement issued to media, Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Allama Tahir Ashrafi said that the decision was against Sharia law.

Justice Waqar Ahmed Seth of the Peshawar High Court had specified in paragraph 66: “We direct Law Enforcement Agencies to strive their level best to apprehend the fugitive/convict and to ensure that the punishment is inflicted as per law and if found dead, his corpse be dragged to the D-Chowk, Islamabad, Pakistan and be hanged for three days.”

The part of the verdict was called highly contentious, with numerous legal experts, journalists and defence experts dubbing it “ridiculous and barbaric”.
