On Thursday, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi urged the Biden administration not to ignore the ground realities regarding occupied Kashmir. The minister also asked the world to help reach a peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute as soon as possible.

Speaking at a photography and cultural exhibition held at the Foreign Office as part of Kashmir Solidarity Day activities, Qureshi said: “I expect the new Biden administration that has always talked of fundamental human rights to stop overlooking the ground realities in held Kashmir.”

The minister’s comment came on the heels of a controversy that began with a tweet by the US State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs in which Occupied Jammu and Kashmir was referred to as India’s Jammu and Kashmir.
