Sharp surge in Covid cases raises alarm

The number of Covid-19 cases has seen a dramatic rise of 30% since the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) announced a relaxation in restrictions almost a week ago.

The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA), a representative body of health professionals, has exhorted the government to immediately impose the curbs to avoid the possibility of a third wave of the virus.

The association has also said that players of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) caught the virus due to neglect in adopting preventive measures and raising the number of spectators.

On February 24, the NCOC had relaxed most of the coronavirus-related restrictions on commercial activities, educational institutions, and other workplaces, letting them function at full strength.
