In the wake of an increasing number of Covid-19 cases, as part of a plan to address the challenge of the second wave of the pandemic, officials and sources said the Sindh government has agreed to revive its high dependence units (HDUs) across Karachi, including the field isolation facility of the Expo Centre that was shut down in September.

In many government hospitals, including the one at the Expo Centre and at least three public sector hospitals, which were renovated following the rise in Covid-19 patients during the first wave of the pandemic, the authorities agreed to revive the HDU facilities.

An official said that the revival of the new HDU at the Expo Centre would help alleviate the burden on other city hospitals, adding that the unit would be run by highly trained health staff, while the Indus Hospital would also help.
