According to sources, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said that Karachi is expected to receive rain and thunderstorm on Monday and Tuesday.
On Sunday night, a mild sand storm was reported in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, SITE, Malir, Landi, Stadium Road, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, North Karachi and Nazimabad.
Dust storm in Karachi downed power cables and ripped off trees in some areas.
The flight operation was also affected as the storm reduced visibility.
PMD Director Sardar Sarfaraz said, “Last night’s dust storm was stronger than expected. Winds blew at a speed of 65km/h and reduced the visibility to 500 metres.”
“A western wind system is present is the city and winds are expected to blow at high speeds today as well,” he added. “The western wind system will leave from the city by tomorrow evening.”
The weather department said widespread rain and dust storm accompanied by gusty winds is expected in Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and scattered places in Punjab. Few moderate to isolated heavy falls are also expected in Makran, Quetta, Kalat, Zhob divisions. Dust-Thunderstorm/rain is expected at isolated places in Islamabad, Shaheed Benazirabad, Sukkur, Larkana, Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin and Mirpurkhas divisions.
