Celebrities all over the world are making donations to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Several high-profile names, including Jack Ma, footballers Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, singers Ricky Martin and Rihanna have chipped in to help their respective countries to fight the coronavirus pandemic. Pakistani philanthropists and businessmen have also come forward to help their compatriots fight the killer virus that has killed 8 and infected more than 1,000 across the country.

Cristiano Ronaldo & Lionel Messi
Top footballers from around the globe are coming together to help fight the spread of the pandemic. In this regard, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo have each contributed €1 million ($1.1 million) to the cause.
The co-founder of Alibaba, Jack Ma, has donated 500,000 test kits and a million face masks to the United States due to the pandemic. The Chinese e-commerce mogul said that the Jack Ma Foundation and Alibaba Foundation are set to transport the test kits and face masks. He added that quick and precise testing and satisfactory personal protective gear for medical experts are the most effective in preventing the spread of the virus. The tycoon also helped Pakistan with essential medical supplies including face masks, for which the government of Pakistan is extremely indebted to him.
Through her charitable organization, the Clara Lionel Foundation, American singer Rihanna has donated $5 million to several charities that are working to fight the coronavirus.
Ricky Martin has mounted a new movement to help healthcare workers save people affected by the virus globally through the nonprofit organization “Project Hope”. “In a situation like this, I need to do stuff,” Martin said, adding, that health care professionals are tremendously susceptible and experts around the world don’t have personal protection gear they need to prevent them becoming infected.
While many businessmen like Bashir Farooqui, Hunaid Lakhani, Feroz Khan, and sports figures like Shahid Afridi are doing their bit to help fight the coronavirus in Pakistan, the general public is also generously contributing in cash and kind to help limit the spread of the pandemic.
Pakistan’s renowned cricketer Shahid Afridi helped by distributing soaps and other essential items in a far-flung area in order to help curb the spread of virus.
Similarly, politician and businessman Naveed Lakhani, under the umbrella of Hussain Lakhani Memon Trust, inaugurated a trust hospital due to shortage of hospitals. The hospital will be operational in 12 months and free medical treatment will be provided to the patients.
Bashir Ahmed Farooqui
Saylani Welfare Trust’s chairperson, Maulana Bashir Ahmed Farooqui, has announced the trust will distribute raw food items among two million people and cooked food among 100,000 others in view of the situation emerging from the coronavirus threat. He said that the entire world was going through an ordeal and everyone, especially, the poor are deeply affected by the crisis. He said that he had met the Sindh chief minister to discuss the issue and had agreed to support the government in handling the crisis.
Pakistani actor Feroze Khan has said he would help the impoverished affected by the lockdown due to the coronavirus threat by distributing ration bags among them. The actor informed his fans that over 1,100 bags have already been sent out.
