Since the inaugural season of Pakistan Super League in 2016, it has kept local and international cricketing fans under its spell. The first season of the league was a huge success. The viewership of the PSL 2016 in the country was higher than World Cup 2015, which Australia won in their home ground. The league grew by leaps and bounds in the next two seasons with more international stars showing their interest to play in the glittering cricketing event and a sixth team, Multan Sultans was added in the third edition to compete alongside Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars, Peshawar Zalmi, Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United.
The cricket festival for the year 2019 will commence from February 14 to March 17 and it is promised to be more thrilling, exciting and entertaining. PSL 2019 will be kicked off with a mesmerizing opening ceremony in Dubai, where local and international artists will put magical performances. Moreover, the fourth season of the league will have a larger pool of international stars.
AB de Villiers and Steve Smith are two of the biggest names of the cricket fraternity and they will be featuring Pakistan Super League this year. South Africa’s AB de Villiers, the man who is known for his wide range of shots, will be playing for Lahore Qalandars. Though, the team has failed to create any impact in the tournament so far, but they have provided entertainment in all seasons and they look solid to give another fun performance in the event.
Similarly, Pakistani fans are excited to see former Australian captain, Steve Smith, who has been a top performer with the ball across all three formats of the game. He will surely be an asset to Multan Sultans. Moreover, he will be playing alongside Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik, which will be a treat to watch. A lot of fireworks is expected from the side, which will be playing under a new owner, Ali Khan Tareen.
Furthermore, this time, Pakistani fans are excited as they will be able to witness eight matches in their homeland. The final of PSL 2017 was played at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore, while the two playoff matches of PSL 4 took place in Lahore and the grand finale was played at the National Stadium Karachi. This time around, Lahore will host three games, whereas, five matches will be staged in Karachi including the all-important final.
The cherry on the top will be seeing their favourite international stars live from the stands. Earlier, the owner of Karachi Kings, Mr Salman Iqbal announced that all his foreign cricketers, including the flamboyant Kiwi batsman, Colin Munro will be visiting Pakistan. On the other hand West Indian mystery spinner, Sunil Narine also announced that he will be coming with Lahore Qalandars to play the matches scheduled in the country.
Another prospect to watch out this season would be the emerging players, who will become stars after the conclusion of the event. PSL has given Pakistan some extremely talented individuals, Fakhar Zaman, Shadab Khan, Rumman Raees and Mohammad Asghar are just few to mention. This year, the pool of emerging players is once again impressive and the world is likely to get at least a couple of stars who will take the world by storm.
