K2 base camp receives internet access and phone coverage

The 4G Base Transceiver Station in Gilgit Baltistan is now functional providing high-speed internet access and phone coverage to mountaineers and trekking groups. This will not only help them to stay connected with their families in emergency cases but will also highlight as the best feature for tourism.

After the death of the late mountaineer, Ali Sadpara lost his life during his winter adventure to K2, this decision was taken to offer means of communication to mountaineers. Moreover, the 4G BTS that has been installed at K2 base camp, its site has been named after the famous mountaineer.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority is making every possible effort to improve telecommunication to enhance the full potential of tourism in the country. The inauguration of this achievement was done by PM Imran Khan when he lately visited Gilgit Baltistan.
