Facebook’s WhatsApp was fined 225 million euros ($266m) by Ireland for the privacy breaches. WhatsApp has said that the fine is considered “entirely disproportionate”. Ireland’s Data Privacy Commissioner (DPC) that looks after the data privacy regulation for Facebook in the European Union said that problems that are concerned to WhatsApp in 2018 were due to the transparency issues.

A WhatsApp spokesperson said that the platform is committed to providing secure and private services and the efforts towards making it more transparent must be made.
