Islamabad United (ISLU) is a professional Pakistani Twenty20 franchise cricket team playing in the Pakistan Super League. The team was introduced in 2015 by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) forming the Pakistan Super League. The franchise is owned by Leonine Global Investments through Leonine Global Sports, their sports agency. The company has purchased Pakistan Super League’s Islamabad Franchise rights with a goal to establish a franchise that offers a truly global sports entertainment experience.

Islamabad United Squad

Islamabad United is Pakistan Super League’s most successful team in its short history. The team won two trophies in a narrow margin, with the maiden title win over Gladiators. The team announced their squad with some batsmen, bowlers, and all-rounders experienced in the T20. Let’s take a closer look and review every part of the United team.

Categories Batsmen Bowlers All-rounders

Faheem Ashraf

Silver Phil Salt
Rizwan Hussain

Amad Butt
Emerging Akif Javed Ahmed Safi Abdullah
Supplementary Rassie Van der Dussen Saif Badar

Luke Ronchi is a batsman wicket-keeper who made his debut for Islamabad United in the 2018 Pakistan Super League. The United retains him in the last two seasons for his outstanding and match-winning performances. Through his single performances, Ronchi gave United an aggressive start in the powerplay and won several games.

He is top of the list in the United squad for his consistency and highest strike rate. In the final play of PSL 3, Ronchi played a cracker for his side, and United won the title for the second time. He usually bats in 3rd place.

Shadab Khan, Islamabad United skipper has played for the National Team of Pakistan. Shadab served as a vice-captain in the last season, and also captained Islamabad in three matches in which he won two and lost one. The batsman gets upset by Shadab googlies and various deliveries and he delivers the breakthrough.

Faheem Ashraf is Islamabad United’s key bowler and is also more efficient with the bat. He’s played multiple games with his team during the tournament’s previous two seasons. Faheem likes to bowl dot balls and puts batsman under pressure to play the wrong shot and get caught.

Dale Steyn is the striker for United. Steyn has many years of experience throughout his profession and has played many T20 cricket leagues. He’s the South African cricket team’s leading bowler whose performances broke the record in ICC history. In the presence of novice bowlers, Dale Steyn joined the Islamabad United 2020 Squad and certainly keeps pressure on his shoulders.

It’s not all rainbows and unicorns though, with Amad Butt and Hussain Talat — two integral all-rounders who provide a lot of balance to the side — contributing to their respective sides in this year’s National T20 with both bat and ball.

Roman Raees and Zafar Gohar played two seasons per se for Islamabad United. Mohammad Musa, single Pakistan Super League season in PSL 2018 for Islamabad United.

Islamabad United is the most successful team in the Pakistan Super League and it comes as no surprise that they are looking to retain the same core of players that have helped them win two of the four tournaments so far.
